The UK-based pharma group Pfizer said on Friday it will launch a generic version of its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra in the United States.
The generic version of Viagra, sold as sildenafil and tadalafil by the drugmaker, was launched in the U. S. on Friday with more than 40,000 generic customers.
Viagra, also sold by the group, is a treatment for male sexual dysfunction and is the only drug approved to treat the condition.
Pfizer said its generic version of Viagra will cost around $10 per tablet and will be available over the counter, while the brand-name drug's price will depend on whether the generic version is sold in the U. and what price the generic drug is available.
Viagra, which is due to begin marketing in the U. in late December, is the company's most popular medication. It was approved for marketing by the U. Food and Drug Administration earlier this year.
It is the second erectile dysfunction drug to be approved for U. sales. Pfizer Inc. is the first US drug to be approved for U.
Last year, about 1.3 million prescriptions for the drug were filled in the U. S., according to data firm IMS Health.
In the meantime, the group has been fighting for the first time about how it will sell generic versions.
The British-based drugmaker said the launch would be made possible by a strategy of "targeting and marketing our customers" as more patients seek treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Viagra, whose generic name is sildenafil citrate, is the first drug to be made available over the counter, the group's head of marketing, Ian Read, said.
Viagra's launch in the U. comes after Pfizer acquired the drug in November from Schering-Plough for $12.5 billion, its largest acquisition in the past five years.
While Schering-Plough said it expected the company to sell the generic version, it has not yet sold the drug, the group said.
"There is a strong possibility that it will sell an entirely new drug, and therefore we can't make that clear to you," said Dr. Therese Laudois, the group's executive director.
She said the company would work with Pfizer to expand the market for its generic products.
The group's marketing plan includes "targeting and marketing our customers" as more patients seek treatment for erectile dysfunction.
Read said Pfizer has invested $1.8 billion on the campaign, with the company's shares trading at $36.25.
"It's a strategic and very successful strategy," he said.
The group said its strategy is to target and "target" patients who are taking certain medications, such as certain anti-depressants, and who need a different approach to treatment.
Pfizer also said it would work with Schering-Plough and the American Pharmacologists to develop a new drug that could be used by people who are taking prescription medications.
Pfizer said it will not launch Viagra until the group has sold its generic version.
Viagra, which was approved for marketing in the U. in October by the U. Food and Drug Administration, is the second erectile dysfunction drug to be approved for U.
In March, a generic version of Viagra, which was approved by the U. Food and Drug Administration, was introduced for marketing in the U. and was available in many other countries.
In June, Pfizer said its own brand name drug, Cialis, was also launched.
The group said its new Viagra will be available in a variety of countries.
Pfizer said its strategy is to make the drug a leader in men's health by bringing the group closer to meeting the needs of its international patient base.

I am a 40-year-old man who takes Viagra pills. The pills are for erectile dysfunction. They are not for me. I do not have an erection problem. I do not have a problem in the bedroom. I just do not have a problem in the bathroom. I do not have a problem in my bedroom. I am not a very fit person, but I am a very fit man. I have been on Viagra pills for years, but I am not fit enough for sexual activity. I have tried other drugs, but they are not as good. I am an athlete. I do not want to be a bad person.
My sex life is not very good. I have never had sex, I do not get aroused, I do not get aroused at all, but I have never had a problem in my sex life. I have not had sexual intercourse or I have not tried anything, I have not taken any sexual pills and I have not had any problems in my sex life. I am not fit enough for sexual activity. I am not a fit person. I have never been a good fit for sexual activity, I am not a good fit for sex. I am not a good fit for sex. I am a good fit for sex.
